Blue Tops Red, 93-86, in Season Opening Hoops Scrimmage
University of Arizona sophomore Richard Jefferson scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Blue team to a 93-86 win over the Red in the annual Red-Blue Scrimmage at McKale Center.
Making his Arizona debut, freshman Gilbert Arenas added 22 for the Blue, and led the team with eight rebounds. Redshirt freshman Luke Walton, another making his first Arizona appearance, had seven assists for the Blue.
"We were doing what we do best, we like to run-and-gun," Arenas said. "It was cool to get out in front of the fans for the first time. I was a little nervous in the first half, but I felt a lot better in the second half."
Sophomore Michael Wright logged a double-double for the Red team with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Loren Woods scored 20 and had four blocks.
