UA Soccer Shut Out By California, 3-0
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A hat trick from junior Regina Holan gave California the 3-0 victory over the University of Arizona women's soccer team in front of a crowd of 592 at Murphey Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
Holan notched her first goal at 34:09 off a penalty kick after a UA handball in the box. Her second goal was a bicycle kick in the center of the box in the 61st minute, with Ashley Mueller assisting. Holan capped her performance in the 77th minute, scoring off a Natalie Stuhlmueller free kick .
The Golden Bears out-shot the Wildcats, 19-12, with Cal goalkeeper Maite Zabala making four saves to earn the shutout. Sophomore SHANNON MONTI (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain HS) was in the nets for Arizona and made five saves. Sophomore forward KIM McGEHEE (San Diego, CA/La Costa Canyon HS) had a team-high four shots for the Wildcats.
Arizona extends its losing skid to four matches and slips to 6-8-0 overall and 0-5-0 in Pac-10 play. California moves to 10-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Pac-10. The Wildcats wrap up their three-game homestand on Sunday, Oct. 24, against Colorado College at 1 p.m.
