Wildcat Soccer Edges UW-Milwaukee In Overtime
Cats pick up 3-2 win over Panthers
PROVO, Utah -- A two-goal performance from sophomore forward Kim McGehee (San Diego, CA/La Costa Canyon HS), including the gamewinner in overtime, gave the University of Arizona women's soccer team a 3-2 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a neutral contest in Provo on Saturday.
McGehee put the Cats on the board first at 18:05, taking a pass from junior midfielder Brooke McManus (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual HS) and sending the shot in to the far post. The UA's leading scorer, junior forward Chrissy Sanford (Newbury, CA/Newbury Park HS) sent the Cats up 2-0 just five minutes later off an assist by sophomore forward Kristi Loroa (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS).
Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which was ranked eighth this week in the Great Lakes Region, mounted a furious comeback, scoring its first goal at the 33-minute mark and then notching the equalizer at the 68-minute mark. The two teams played the remainder of regulation without scoring, forcing a sudden-death overtime.
McGehee came through again for the Cats, hitting the gamewinner 14 minutes into the overtime and giving the UA its third victory of the young season.
Arizona, on a modest two-game win streak, improves its record to 3-1-0 overall. The Cats have now tied the best-ever start in the history of the program, as the 1995 team too kicked off its season 3-1-0. The Wildcats will remain in Provo, where they will take on 11th-ranked Brigham Young on Monday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. MDT.
